Beloved wife of Congressman John Jennings Jr., (deceased 1956); devoted mother of Ethel Jennings Coykendall ( child in photo); Katherine Jennings Van Powell; and Helen Jennings; Pearnie is the daughter of James "J.M." Hamby and Rachel Smith Hamby of Campbell County, Tennessee; cherished granddaughter of Andrew Jackson and Rachel Emily Parks Smith, of the founding SMITH family of Smithberg, later known as Jellico, Tennessee. Both Pearnie's parents were deceased before her 11th birthday and she is found living with her grandmother, Rachel Parks Smith, a widow, and her Uncle, the Reverend George E. Baker Sr. (my great grandfather), a widower, on the Smith homestead, Newcomb, Campbell, Tennessee, in 1900.

Mrs. John Jennings, Jr. of Knoxville, widow of the late Congressman John Jennings of Campbell County, died October 22 at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. She was 81.

Congressman Jennings, her late husband, died in 1956. He had served in Congress from 1940 to 1951. Earlier he had been Campbell County School Superintendent, Campbell County attorney, and judge of the chancery court. The couple married in 1906 and moved to Jellico where Mr. Jennings practiced law. Mrs. Jennings is survived by three daughters and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Knoxville Wednesday afternoon.
