Goatshed Fire Kills Two Men
Grady-
Rob Roy (Doc) Smith, 71, and Emmet Riley, 73, died yesterday in a house fire at the Goatshed Community near here, according to J. M. Russell, Grady fire chief.
The fire started, apparently from a cooking stove explosion, at Smith's home, where both men were, Russell said. Riley's house later caught on fire and both homes were destroyed, the fire chief said. Riley and Smith were cousins.
He had no immediate survivors.
Funeral services for Riley will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Nicholson Cemetery in Jefferson County by Reverend Charles P. Settle. Burial will be by Ralph Robinson & Son Mortuary of Pine Bluff.
Smith, also a native of Grady, was a son of the late Henry Clinton and Marie Catherine Flynn Smith. He had attended Woodville School.
He was a retired farmer.
His survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Floyd Edwards of Grady and Swana Headrick of Huntsville, Alabama; a sister, Maude Smith of Pine Bluff and three grandchildren.
His funeral services and burial will be in Grady Cemetery by Reverend Settle. Burial will be by Robinson.
