PROVO PILOT IS KILLED IN PLANE CRASH
Cecil Blain Carlson, 20, of Provo, was killed early today when a light private plane he was piloting crashed in the residential suburbs of Phoenix, Ariz., where he was a flight student in the Southwest Airway civil pilot training school. He had been in Phoenix since July. The sheriff's office reported the plane was destroyed. Cause of the crash was not known. Young Carlson was the son of Carl A. and Stella Byrne Carlson of 244 East First South, Provo. He was born August 13, 1921, in Spanish Fork. The family has lived here for many years. He received his first flight training with the Spanish Fork flying service. He took a ground course under direction of Merrill Christopherson at Provo. The body will be brought to Provo. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Berg Mortuary.
Survived By: His parents, two brothers, Wallace, of Salt Lake City; Lee, of Provo; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Baker, Mrs. Lucile Evans, and Miss Norma June Carlson, all of Provo; also the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Byrne, of Rexburg, Ida.
