Melvin Cargile, 89, of McGregor, died Monday afternoon, January 23, 2012. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, McGregor, with Reverend David Thompson officiating. Interment will be 2 p.m. at Faulkenberry Cemetery in Groesbeck, Texas. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cole Funeral Home.

Melvin was born in Limestone County, Texas, to the late Melvin Napoleon and Cora (Jackson) Cargile. He served his country in the United States Army Infantry and was medically discharged as a private first class. On March 12, 1941, he married Ruby Izell Faulkner in Mart. For 15 years he was employed by Macax in Dallas, Texas as a spray painter. In 1984, he moved from Irving to McGregor and was employed part-time by Brookshire Brothers, Anderson Texaco and the Housing Authority. He was a member of College Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and teaching his grandchildren how to play dominos.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, on August 13, 2008; sister, Berta Lee Fussner; and a grandson, John Martino.

Survivors include daughter, Helen Kattness, of McGregor; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Geneva Morris, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Barbara Parker, of Houston; and many other family members and friends. P8
