Rosalind Lois Joynes Jennings, 91, departed this life May 9, 2004, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimers.
Rosie was born in Norfolk, May 5, 1913, to Walter Cooper and Rosalind Joynes.
She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Thomas Preston Jennings; by sister, Maxine Joynes Owens; brothers, Joseph Benjamin, Walter Cooper Jr., and St. Ledger Joynes and her grandson, Joshua Mark Jennings.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Mrs. Carol Jennings Stallings and husband Kenneth of Auburndale, Fla., Holly Jennings Dillard and husband Richard of Norfolk; and her sons, Thomas Preston Jennings Jr. and wife Barbara of Virginia Beach, Mark David Jennings and wife Michelle of Norfolk. There are eight grandchildren, Keith and Michael Stallings, Jennifer Stallings Dulin, Kimberly Dillard-Stephenson, Kerri Dillard, Sarah Jennings Althoff, Mark Pillsbury, Kimberly Carmody and Matthew Shealey; and nine great-grandchildren.
Rosie lived most of her life in Ocean View and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a charter member of the Challenger Circle affiliated with the Childrens Hospital of The Kings Daughters in Norfolk. Rosie loved being with her grandchildren and taking trips with them. She also loved the beach, the mountains and yearly trips to Chrisfield, Md., for blue crabs. She could often be found tending her flowers and yard in Ocean View.
She spent her growing up years in the Fairmount Park neighborhood of Norfolk and was raised in the Trinity Baptist Church where her father was a founding member.
Family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, 8464 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial at Forrest Lawn Cemetery on Granby Street, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association or the Childrens Hospital of The Kings Daughters.
