Mollie and Robert Collier were very much like stepparents to Nathan M. Shumate's three girls. The Shumate girls, Mai Belle, Virginia, and Louise lost their mother Maggie Adams in 1896 and their father Nathan Shumate in 1899. Virginia Shumate married James Henderson Moran III.

Mrs Robert L. Collier, who had been an invalid for several years, died at her home on Main Street at 4:30 Monday evening. She had been confined to her bed for the past six months and her death did not come as a surprise to those who knew her real condition. Previous to her marriage Mrs. Collier was Miss Mollie Tatem, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Tatem and most of her life was spent in this community. She was married to Mr. Collier Sept 30, 1886 and in Sept 1936 they celebrated their golden wedding. Though no children blessed this union, they have done much for several orphan children of other parentage, among whom are Mrs. C. E. Wyatt, Lakeland, Fla., Mrs. John Stephenson, Hamilton, Oh, and Mrs J.H. Moran, Dresden Tenn. Every one in the community will miss Mrs. Collier but the loss falls heaviest on the devoted husband, Mr. Collier, who did everything in his power to make her last days more comfortable. Besides Mr. Collier, she is survived by one brother, Mr. Sam J. Tatum and numerous nieces and nephew, to whom our heartfelt sympathy is extended. Her funeral was held at her late home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. C.E. McLean, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of which the deceased had been a member for many years. Her burial followed in Crab Orchard Cemetery. Active pall bearers were her nephews, Messrs. H.S. Collier, of Liberty; R.H. Collier, of Lebanon; C.C., J.M. and J.W. Collier and Mr. W.H. Pettus. Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. C.E. Wyatt, Lakeland, Fla., Mrs. J.H. Moran, Dresden, Tenn., Mrs. J.T. Stephenson, Hamilton O., Mrs. J.J. Chaney, Louisville, Ky, and Mrs. Dessie Magee, Corbin, Ky besides numbers of others who were relatives of the deceased. The floral tributes were many and beautiful.
