South Paris Frances A. (Jones) Hammond passed away January 20th at Market Square Health Care Center where she resided since April 2009. She was born in Burnham, Maine on September 14, 1909 the daughter of William and Rose Huston Jones. She came to South Paris around 1928 and worked for the family of Sheriff William Frothenham. Frances married George Hammond on July 4, 1929. They shared 64 years together. George passed away in 1993 and Frances stayed in the home place with the help of her family until she was 99 years old. She was a housekeeper at several homes on Paris Hill, but mostly was a stay at home mom. She loved to bake bread, pies, and make donuts and gave most of the cooking away to family and friends. Her apple pie was the best you could eat. She also liked her flower gardens and house plants. She had a green thumb with plants. Frances and her husband visited many campgrounds over the years. They also liked to play bingo. Frances kept busy in her later years with her house plants, embroidery work, and sewing quilts, etc. She would give her handy work away at Christmas to family and friends. These special gifts are lasting memories to cherish. She is survived by 2 daughters, Kathleen Scribner and husband Leslie of South Paris and Marian Cummings and husband Bernal of West Paris; a son Carl Sunwall and wife Joan of Tarrifville, CT.; 16 grandchildren Patricia Scribner of Farmington, Leslie Scribner and wife, Kathy of Fayette, Bernard Scribner and Jacqui O'Brien of South Paris, Roger Scribner and wife, Rhonda of Sumner, Don Scribner of Lewiston, Cindy Scribner,NP and husband, Dr. Larry Hopperstead of Lewiston, Carol (Scribner) Hall and husband, Neil of Magalloway Plantation, Cathy Scribner of South Paris, Brian Scribner and wife, Sharon of West Paris. Milan Cummings of York, Marilee Cummings and husband, Charlie of California, Deanna (Hammond) Abbott and husband, Danny of West Paris, Donna ( Hammond) Kazregis and husband, Wally of Peru, Carrie (Hammond) Adams and husband, Phillip of West Paris, Sandy (Sunwall) Phillips and husband, Steve of CT.;22 great grandchildren Sharon Phinney, Sheryl Scribner-Rocha, Jessica Cotton, Crystal Thomas, Justin Bonney, Ezekiel Hall, Elijah Hall, Shelby Scribner, Katy Emerson, Alyssa Emerson, Andrew Emerson, Jamie Ellen Cummings, Jeremy Cummings, Chelsea Cummings, Tristan Abbott, Dealan Abbott, Megan Kazregis, Brenton Adams, Soran Adams, Olivia Phillips, Julia Phillips; 16 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband George, 2 sons George, Jr. and Gerald; a daughter Dorothy Rose; a great granddaughter Amanda Scribner; 2 brothers Wendall and Percy Jones; 4 sisters Marguerite, Katherine, Mandy, and Beatrice; and her parents. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
