Henry Allen Bartley (1836-1911) was the son of George W. Bartley (1800-1868) and Mardula (Hoge) Bartley (1800-1850). He was one of nine children. The Bartley's were from Fluvanna VA. While a young man, he worked in a tannery. He later married Jane Francis (Devinie) Bartley (1831-1911) and had four children (Mary Lucy, George Samuel, Hanna Elizabeth, Henrietta). During the civil war, Henry Allen enlisted as a soldier (1861-1864) and was an aide to Stonewall Jackson.
