Joyce "Me Maw" Ellen Monteith Bates, 78, of Huntersville, died January 3, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital-Huntersville. She was born on May 29, 1933 in Huntersville to the late Neal and Ellen Blythe Monteith. She was a long time member of the Huntersville Presbyterian Church; and graduate of Huntersville High School, Class of 1951, last graduating class of Huntersville High, she retired with 38 years of service with BellSouth.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Hildreth; and son Robert Bates and wife, Belinda all of Huntersville; sisters, Mary Neal Davis and Ethel Ranson; 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by infant granddaughter, Keri Nicole Hildreth, and sisters Eunice Sims, Martha Monteith, and Janie Oehler.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Huntersville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Vern Dodd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 prior at the church.
