Helen Bobette (Sutter) Lechner, 90, Anchorage, Alaska, formerly of Bradford and Phoenix, Ariz., died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012.

She was born Aug. 24, 1921, in Valier, a daughter of the late Dee Glenn and Flora (Neal) Sutter, and her step-mother, Elizabeth Sutter.

July 18, 1941, she married Arthur Raymond Lechner, who preceded her in death Sept. 26, 1995.

Mrs. Lechner was employed by Zippo Manufacturing Company in Bradford, retiring in 1986 after 35 years of service.

After retirement, she and her husband lived in Phoenix.

She enjoyed spending time at their family cottage at Lake Erie.

She also enjoyed bowling, fishing, cooking, canning, baking cookies and quilting.

She was determined to make a quilt for each child and grandchild.

Surviving relatives include two children, Nanette L. Bliss and husband James of Anchorage, and Arthur R. Lechner and wife Chris of Bradford; two sisters, Barbara McFarland and husband William of Rossiter, and Beverly Hinderliter and husband Charles of Worthville; 11 grandchildren, David Lechner, Jamette O'Bryan, James B. Bliss Jr., Ashlee Hyde, Patrick Bliss, James Reed, Wayne Reed, Theresa Barnes, Michael Shields, Laura Harris and Brian Shields; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, step-mother and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Vivian L. Reed-Rice and Flora L. Shields; a grandson, Brian Lechner; and twin sisters, Bonnie Miller-Bishop and Betty Heckler.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m today at Shumaker Funeral Home Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Don Brauer.

Interment will follow at Valier Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Lechner's memory to the Brian Lechner Vocational Scholarship, c/o Bradford Area High School, P.O. Box 375, Bradford, Pa. 16701, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
