Charlie was born November 21, 1875 in Coal Creek, TN now called Rocky Top. He was the oldest son of Tipton and Lydia Hightower. Charlie lived in Anderson County from his birth on but the family is found in Perry County, KY in 1920. He and Alice were married in August 18, 1893 and Charlie was a miner most of his life. Charlie and Alice had 7 girls and 1 boy. Elizabeth, Cora, Ida, Rose, Beatrice, Italy Irene, Ruby and Clyde.
Charlie was known as Frog by his co-workers and some family members. After the move from Tennesse Charlie worked, as a mining foreman, for Blue Diamond. They were living in Hazard, Kentucky in 1951 but by 1953 they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where they lived the rest of their lives (he and most of the family).
