Addie Pearl McGhee, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 12, 2012, after an extended Illness.

She was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Troy, Ala., to the late Ben and Addie Bell (Maynert) Scott. However, she was raised by her stepmother, Florence Scott.

Upon relocating to Anderson Oct. 31, 1971, from Montgomery, Ala., she gained employment at Turtle Creek Nursing Home, where she worked as a nursing assist. She was a devoted member of Zion Baptist Church, until her health failed, and the local Elks Lodge.

Addie loved and cherished her family. She loved sharing stories, cooking and gardening.

Addie is survived by five daughters, Jeanette McGhee, Shirley (Brett) Karr, Brenda (Ivan) Hyatt, Barbara McGhee and Ellen (Joe) Vance; two sons, James (girlfriend, Teresa) McGhee Jr. and Larry McGhee; sister, Tiny Mae Hall; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James McGhee Sr.; parents, Ben and Florence Scott; grandmother, Mary Jane Scott; and sons, Jerry and Donald McGhee.

A special thank you to Dr. Nassier and Dr. Robert Ash.

Services will be at noon Friday at Zion Baptist Church, 2008 Rev. J.T. Menifee (formerly Louise Street) St., Anderson. Visitation hours will be at the church from 10 a.m. to noon. The Revs. Terry Bush and Victor L. Richardson will officiate. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
