Son of Green Beckham and Martha Proctor. He was married (1st) on 8 Mar 1860 in Wayne Co, TN to Rebecca Martin. He was married (2nd) on Mar 1870 to Sarah Elizabeth Downing.

William Hollis Beckham was a veteran of the Civil War having served as a Sergeant in Company B, 2nd Tennessee Mounted Infantry, U.S.V. He enlisted on 15 Oct 1863 and mustered out on 15 Oct 1863. William H Beckham captured in Hardin Co, TN 27 May 1864. Exchanged at Savannah, 25 Nov 1864. Went to Annapolis where he received two months pay (all he ever recieved). Says he drew at Annapolis one overcoat, one jacket, one pr pants, two shirts, two pr drawers, 2 pr socks. POW record: Captured at Clifton, TN 27 May 1864 - no record of confinement at Andersonville, GA. Paroled at Savannah GA 26 Nov 1864 reported to Cap Parole MD 3 Dec 1864. Muster roll says captured near Indian Creek.
