Elizabeth Popham Church, 97, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at Summit Place, Simpsonville, S.C. She previously resided at Miller Oaks Apartments in Mauldin, S.C., and Village Square Apartments, Pendleton, S.C.
Born in Anderson County, Mrs. Church was the widow of Verner Hugh Church and the daughter of the late William and Mary Elizabeth Fitzgerald Popham.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Oconee Memorial Hospital. She was a former member of Asbury Baptist Church in Pendleton and was a member of Victory Chapel Baptist Church and a member of the T.W. Julian Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Church is survived by a daughter, Jeanette C. Williams of Nashville, Tenn.; three sons, William P. Church and his wife, Janel, of Lake Greenwood, S.C., Thomas D. Church of Greenville, and Larry D. Church and his wife, Barbara of Greenville; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Church was predeceased by a daughter, Bobbie Sue Simpson and a great-granddaughter, Donice Church.
Memorials may be made to Victory Chapel Baptist Church, P.O. Box 132, Conestee, SC 29636, or Lutheran Hospice, 218 Trade St., Greer, SC 29651.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. at Victory Chapel Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Memory Gardens, Clemson, S.C. The family will be at the home of her granddaughter, Kim Hawley, 209 Meadow Lane, Easley, S.C.
