Berniece's mother wrote an account of her short life. She noted that "the town was full of influenza." Berniece and her older sister, Laura, were both sick. Laura improved but Berniece began having convulsions. "About the only help was the administration of the elders." Berniece was blessed that she would live until her mission was completed. Finally the decision was made to "let her go." Her mother writes, "The sweet little thing opened her lovely eyes as if to look around and breathed her last." She continues, "I have never grieved over Berneice's death. I'm convinced that her life's mission was finished even though it was so short. I hope we may be worthy of her."
