"Victor Armstead Crumbaker was born 30 September 1871 on the family farm in McLean County, Illinois near Lexington.  He was the second of eight children born to John Henry Crumbaker and Elizabeth Jane Wilson.  His paternal grandparents were William Armstead Crumbaker and Margaret Piper.  Victor attended DePauw University and became a Methodist minister.

On 26 September 1905 Victor Armstead Crumbaker married Marie Arville Payne in Kankakee County, Illinois.  Marie (or Maria) was born 5 April 1877 in Arrowsmith, McLean, Illinois.  She was the daughter of Martin Van Buren Payne and Catherine Ursula Ulmer.  The family was large (eleven) and Marie was about the sixth child (one child died, name and birth unknown).  Marie graduated from school in Fairbury, Illinois. 

Victor volunteered for civilian service with the YMCA during WWI at the age of 46 and went overseas about July 1918.  He returned in August 1919.  They moved around Illinois to various places with the ministry.  They had one child: Charles H Crumbaker, who was born 5 September 1907. 

Marie Arville (Payne) Crumbaker died 15 September 1940 in Bloomington, Illinois at the age of 63.  She was interred at Avoca Cemetery in Fairbury (Find A Grave Memorial# 105543710) where Victor’s parents were located.  Marie’s parents are located nearby at Graceland Cemetery.  After his wife’s death Victor moved to Detroit.  He married twice more while in his 70s.  Victor Armstead Crumbaker died in Detroit on 9 September 1965 at the age of 93.  He was interred at Avoca Cemetery (Find A Grave Memorial# 8348640)."
