Val was born on July 2, 1961 in New Hall, CA. to Robert and María Estela (Pino) Contreras.
Val is survived by her high school sweetheart and devoted husband of 33 years, Lance Kelly Brown, her devoted children, Joel Issac Brown and his wife, Jennifer and Brittney Rose Carlo and her husband, Desiderio, her grandchildren, Brandon McCoy Carlo, Adriel Fahlsing Carlo and Bella Saint Carlo, her mother, María Estela Contreras, her sisters, Dolores Contreras, Elizabeth Thomas and her husband, Dave, Deborah Cross and her husband, Wayne Babbit, Jeanette Wilson, Robert Contreras and María Estella Otero and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Val resided most of her life in Washington State before moving to Magdalena in 2008. Val enjoyed photography and loved the outdoors. Val was fond of hiking and exploring but especially loved walking on the beach, any beach. Val loved and adored her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Val was a strong and devout Christian.
Val was preceded in death by her father, Robert Contreras and her brother, Ronald Contreras.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 10:00 p.m. at the Magdalena Community Church, Magdalena, NM. Interment will be at Magdalena Cemetery.
