JOSEPH LOGSDON, a venerable pioneer of Schuyler county, has been a resident of the State of Illinois since 1844. He was born in Madison county, Kentucky, September 6, 1809, a son of William and Elizabeth (Beheimer) Logsdon; his father was a native of the same county, and died there, at the age of fifty-five years; the mother survived until her eighty-fifth year, and died in Brown county, Illinois. The paternal grandparents, Edward and Polly Logsdon, also lived to a good old age. Joseph Logsdon is one of a family of eleven children, four of whom are yet living. He spent his youth at home, and in 1837 was united in marriage to Miss Lucy Parker, a native of his own county, born May 1, 1815. Her parents, Jonathan and Patsey (Everson) Parker, were born in Madison county, Kentucky, and were pioneers of Ohio. After his marriage Mr. Logsdon settled in Kentucky and followed agricultural pursuits there until 1844, when he came to Brown county, Illinois; he purchased sixty acres of wild land, and made it his home until coming to Schuyler county, when he bought a tract of 184 acres, which was well improved. He has done a general farming business, and has met with merited success. Mr. and Mrs. Logsdon have had born to them nine children, seven of whom survive; they are all married and the heads of families, excepting one: Elizabeth R. has seven children; Perry is the subject of a sketch which will be found elsewhere in this volume; Sarah is the mother of seven children; Ellen has a family of six children; George is married, but has no children; Jacob has two children; Andrew is the father of a family of four; the two who are deceased were twins. The ancestors have been people of long lives, noted for their honor and uprightness, respected by all who knew them.

OBIT: Death of Joseph Logsdon - Venerable Pioneer Passes Away at His Home in Woodstock Township. Joseph Logsdon, a resident of Schuyler county for more than half a centurty, died at his home in Woodstock township shortly after 10 o'clock Monday night of senile debility. The funeral was held from the residence yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. John Knowles, assisted by Rev. A.H. Hoffer. The interment was in the Naught cemetery. Joseph Logsdon was born near Richmond, Madison county, Ky., Sept. 6, 1809. He was the oldest child of Wm. Logsdon. In 1826 his father died, leaving to him the care and support of his widowed mother and a large family of children. This duty he faithfully performed. In 1836 Mr. Logsdon was united in marriage to Lucy Parker, who died May 30, 1892. To this union were born ten children. The surviving daughters are Mrs. Elizabeth Rose of Brown county, Mrs. Sarah Robbins of Schuyler county and Mrs. Ellen Hermetet of Rushville. The surviving sons are Hon. Perry Logsdon, George W. Logsdon, Jacob and Andrew Logsdon, all residents of Woodstock and Bainbridge townships. The deceased are Squire Logsdon, who died in Bushnell, aged 50 years; also Joseph and Martha, who died in infancy. There are also two surviving brothers, G. R. Logsdon, residing near Cooperstown, and Wm. Logsdon, residing near Mt. Sterling. In 1844 Mr. Logsdon removed to a farm near Cooperstown and in 1865 he removed to the farm where he has since resided. He has been blind and almost deaf for the last six years, but bore his afflicitions with courage and patience. His life was marked by industry and sobriety, those noble attributes which so adorns manhood. As a husband he was faithful, as a father he was kind, as a friend he was trusted, as a neighbor he was obliging and as a citizen he was esteemed. He was a splendid representative of that sturdy class of pioneers who have converted our forest lands into productive farms. He believed in the justice and mercy of God and now that his long and useful life is ended he has gone to that rest which is the reward of the just.
