CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND -- Philomena (Arnone) Zapf, 54, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, Jan 9, 2012 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born May 24, 1957, in Frostburg, she is the daughter of the late James Arnone and Pauline (Bolden) Arnone. She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Christine Arnone.
Philomena was a member of the Shrine of SS. Peter & Paul, Cumberland; a 1975 graduate of Beall High School and a former secretary to Walter N. Yoder and Sons. She enjoyed volunteering for Special Olympics, the Vietnam Veterans, Cumberland VFW Ladies Auxiliary and particularly loved teaching the kids in her Sunday School Class at the Shrine of SS. Peter & Paul.
Surviving are her husband, William (Bill) E. Zapf Jr., Cumberland; two sons, Steve Logsdon and wife Michelle, and granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Joelle, of Pittsburgh, Pa., Matt Logsdon and wife Shala, and granddaughter, Lyllah, of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; and a daughter, Stefanie Liller and husband Kenny, and granddaughter, Madison, of Cumberland; and beloved step-children and step-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Rosemary McKenzie and husband Bill, Manchester and Kathleen Arnone, Owens Crossroads, Ala.; four brothers, William Arnone and wife Sharon, Cresaptown, James Arnone and wife Carol, Ridgley, W.Va., Robert Arnone and wife Mary, Brownsboro, Ala., Regis Arnone and girlfriend Marcela, Vienna, Va.; and numerous nieces and nep-hews.
Family and friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Shrine of SS. Peter & Paul, 125 Fayette St., Cumberland on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gregory Chervenak O.F.M. CAP.as celebrant.
Interment will be in the St. Michael's Cemetery, Frostburg.
Memorials may be directed to, WMHS Foundation, Emergency Services, P.O. Box 539, Cumberland, MD 21501-0539.
A Bereavement luncheon will be held at St. Michael's Church Hall, Frostburg, following the interment. The family would like to thank the Vietnam Veterans, Cumberland, for their offer to have hosted the luncheon, and would also like to thank the Western Maryland Hospital staff for their care of Philomena.
