An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on February 22, 1923 for Elsie E. Lucas, stated he had died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. R. Robertson of Shelbyville on Wednesday [February 14, 1923]. Elsie E. Lucas was born in McLean County, Illinois, March 29, 1866 and spent the early part of his life in that county on a farm. He was united in marriage to Miss Christine Funk at Colfax in June, 1888, and to this union one child was born, Mrs. W. R. Robertson. He was survive by his wife and daughter, two brothers, Joe Lucas of Lakewood and Alfred Lucas of Decatur, and four sisters, Mrs. R. H. Dennis of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Grant Hinshaw of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Marion Swearinger of Heyworth, Ill., and Mrs. F. H. Baldridge of Decatur, Ill. Funeral services were held from the Robertson home, Rev. G. P. Burton officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.
