Betty M. (Mariani) Carchia, age 85, of Scituate, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012. Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of Andrew and Ida Mariani. Devoted wife of the late George Carchia. Loving mother of David Carchia and his wife Donna of Marshfield, Joyce Frye and her husband Curtis of Mashpee, Michael Carchia of Florida, and Jill Patterson and her husband Douglas of Scituate. Sister of Dorothy Bergeron of East Bridgewater, Barbara Duquette of Lakeville, Susan Lawciewicz of Brockton, Joanne Chubbuck of West Bridgewater, the late Edward Mariani and Jack Mariani. She was the loving Nanny to 12 grandchildren, including the late Shawn D. Patterson of Scituate and 25 great-grandchildren. Betty was an avid bowler. She was the secretary/treasurer of the Scituate Womens Bowling League for many years. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family, friends, and neighbors. Many people will remember seeing Betty and the late Sandy Corcoran walking to the harbor rain or shine. Betty will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her family will be forever grateful for all the blessings and love she brought into their lives. Friends and family are invited to attend visiting hours at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd., Scituate, Tuesday, Jan. 10 from 4 p.m.to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. in the First Trinitarian Congregation Church, 381 Country Way, Scituate followed by burial in Union Cemetery, Scituate.
