Gladys Boydstun passed away at the Walbridge Wing in Meeker, Colo. on Dec. 23, 2007, at the age of 86. She lived her life for the Lord and her family. Her unconditional love and never-ending faith shall be missed greatly but will forever live on in the many lives she touched.She was born Gladys Clarasia Williams on Nov. 19, 1921, to Jimmie Willard Williams and Olive Irene (Terwilliger) Williams in Yuma, Colo. Her parents divorced and her mother married Oscar Bowland and had 12 more children. Her father remarried Vera Stark and they had five children. She was oldest of 18 children. The Bowlands lived in Kansas until Gladys started high school and they moved to Silt, Colo. near Harvey Gap Reservoir. She graduated from Silt Union High School and met the "love of her life" Lawrence Boydstun in Silt. They were married on Aug. 23, 1942 in Wichita, Texas where he was stationed in the Air Force. They lived in Tampa, Fla. and Biloxi, Miss. until he was shipped to England in World War II. They returned to Silt when Lawrence was discharged.The couple had three children, Connie Lea, Larry Wayne and James Howell. All three were Gladys' pride and joy and touched her in different ways. She was very active in her community and church. She served as a 4-H leader, was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, Ladies Auxiliary, Silt Extension Club and several other organizations. Gladys was an excellent seamstress and cook. She designed and made numerous cheerleading uniforms, twirling uniforms and wedding dresses for her daughter, nieces and friends.The Boydstun home was constantly filled with family and friends. Gladys cared for several nieces, nephews and grandchildren throughout the years and was loved by all. Lawrence and Gladys loved to hunt and fish, go to baseball games and travel. Gladys was a member of the Silt Congregational Church. She loved to bake and help with all the church functions as well as visiting members that were housebound. When her husband passed away in April 2001, she moved to Meeker to live with her daughter and son-in-law.Survivors include her daughter Connie (Torrance) Hughes of Meeker, her son Jim (Peggy) Boydstun of Canon City, Colo., six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, four sisters, Verna Pretti of Delta, Colorado, Lorna Dean and Veronice (Del) Heitz of Denver, Leona (Dale) Meadors of Garden City, Kan., five brothers, Martin (Rose) Bowland of Arizona, Orville (Cathy) Bowland of Texas, Arnold (Darlene) Bowland of Denver, Ronald (Sandy) Bowland of Clifton, Colo. and Harold (Joan) Williams of Denver, two sister-in-laws, Betty Antonelli of Grand Junction and June Boydstun of Denver and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Wayne, her husband Lawrence, Her parents Oscar and Olive Bowland and Jim and Vera Williams, two sisters, Stella Bowland and Nila Williams, six brothers, Arlie, Darwin and Gerald Bowland, Howard, Harvey and Harley Williams.A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. at the Meeker United Methodist Church.
