Although he had survived a massive heart attack in 2002, Eddie Davila Rivera finally succumbed to CHF early Monday morning, December 19, 2011 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa.

Mr. Rivera was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico, August 21, 1945, the third child of Miguel Angel Rivera and Felicita Davila Viera. His mother moved to New York City, New York when he was 5 years old and he grew up shining shoes, carrying groceries and training on the swim team.

At 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and pursued a career in telecommunications that lasted until at the age of 38 he retired from the service. During his military career, he met and married Rae Ann Parker and they had a family of five girls and two boys. Their marriage ended in 1987. In 1996 he married Christy Anne Shelton. She survives at the home.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Oria Pagan, and grandson Gabriel Aydn Rivera. He is survived by his brother Angel Miguel Rivera, sister Estersarid Rosado, children: Toni Rae Cox, Oriana Kirstie Rivera, Eddie Miguel Rivera and Rico John Rivera all of Leavenworth, Kansas; Sonia Carin Minghelli of El Paso, Texas; Samantha Edi Rivera of Lawrence, Kansas; Monica Felice Rivera of Topeka, Kansas, Joshua Austin Shelton of Westside, Iowa; Heather Raine Shelton of Lake City, Iowa; Jacob Lawrence Shelton of West Des Moines, Iowa. He has 31 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Eddie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints and was a Sunday School President of the Carroll, Iowa Branch.

Visitation will be at the Davis Funeral Home on Monday, December 26, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be at the Leavenworth LDS church Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 9:30 am with interment at the V.A. Cemetery following.
