She married Gaylord Byers on 15 January 1956 in Graham. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Graham and the Ladies' Auxilliary of VFW.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Crumpton.

Survivors: her husband; one son - Ricky Byers; one daughter - Gay Wonsang; two brothers - James Douthit and Smitty Douthit; two sisters - Donnie Hughes and Nancy Allen; two grandchildren.
