Dorothy Harrigill, 88, died Wednesday, December 21, 2011 in Tulsa, OK. Dorothy Anita Smith was born to George Utley and Nita Priest Smith on May 23, 1923, in Baton Rouge, LA. She grew up on Florida Street where she met Gerry Harrigill in the first grade. Dorothy attended LSU but married Lt. Gerry Harrigill on April 22, 1943, before graduating, After World War II Dot and Gerry returned to Louisiana where Gerry began his career in the Boy Scouts of America. They moved to Kingsville, Texas, in 1952, to Corpus Christi, in 1956, and to TuIsa in 1964. As a housewife and stay-at-home morn, Dot used all her God-given talents to care for her family - from child care to repairing the washing machine; from sewing sailboat sails, buckskin jackets, and wedding dresses, to repainting the house; from counseling, budget management, cooking and doctoring, to teaching her family the value of love, service and generosity. Dorothy was a Cub Scout Den mother and a Campfire and Girl Scout leader, a Sunday School teacher and the "go-to" mom for all the neighborhood. Her creativity was endless. She served as a volunteer with Emergency Infant Services for many years and was a long-time member of the Brookside Lion Tamers. She joined Christ United Methodist Church and became an active, faithful member using her gifts to develop and support the Banner Ministry. She was a member of the Altar Guild, the 50-50 Club, the mission committee and the Sunday evening Bible Study. Dorothy Harrigill was a woman of great faith, courage and perseverance. We thank God for her 88 years among us. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Gerry and is survived by: one son: Richard Harrigill and his wife Pam two daughters: Brenda Erdmann and her husband Paul: Sherry Strain and her husband Bill, four grandsons: Jay Harrigill and his wife Alicia. Greg Harrigill and his wife Audette, Kyle Erdmann and Ryan Erdmann: four great-grandsons: Austin, Parker, Jace and Grady Harrigill, one great-granddaughter: Gloria Grace Harrigill; two nieces and numerous friends.
