( Update Oct.21,2013- James and wife Irene had their ashes mixed and were placed together in a vault in Indiana Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Madison,In on Oct.19,2013..Together Forever)Son of Mary Orton and Letcher West. Husband of Irene Una McClinton West. Father of Bob,Karen,Sue,Pat,Lin,Mike,Missy,Shannon..Grandfather and Great Grandfather of many..******My grandpa West was born in Bell County,Ky during hard times. His father died when he was very young and his little sister died after her clothes caught on fire. My grandpa lived with his paternal grandparents and always talked about his grandma Maggie(step-grandmother). He was raised with his uncles who were his age.He enlisted in the Navy during WWII at the same time as his uncle(Shirley West,Bell County,Ky).Shirley did not make it home. My grandpa met my grandmother while in New York and they were married a few weeks later. They had 8 children. They lost a son,James Patrick West in a auto accident ,1 block from their house. They thought of him everyday for the rest of their lives. My grandfather worked 2 jobs for most of his married life and retired from Hilton Davis in Cincinnati,Ohio. Sunday's were his family days. We would all head out to the lake for swimming and grandpa would be asleep under a tree. But he was happy being surrounded by his family! My grandpa would give you the shirt off his back and believed kids never had enough socks, underwear,or pencils! James West was diagnosed with ALS(Lou Gehrigh's Disease) and it took its toll pretty rapidly. It hurt each one of us to watch him suffer through this devastating disease. During his time in the nursing home,he was crowned "King" and would announce to everyone when my grandmother came to see him that his "Queen" had arrived! That was my grandpa right up till the end. I miss you everyday grandpa but im glad you are with your "Queen"....
