Marion Waters Barrow, age 80, resident of Columbus, died on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital.

Mrs. Barrow, daughter of the late Vernon Clarence Waters and Minnie Phurrough Waters, was born March 2, 1931 in Columbus. She was a graduate of Columbus High School and also earned an A.B degree from Huntington College and M.Ed and Ed.S. degrees from Georgia State University. Mrs. Barrow was retired from Columbus High School after 30 years of faithful service, where she taught English and French and was Chairman of the English Department. While at Columbus High School, she was honored as STAR teacher of Columbus High School in 1980 and 1982; Runner-up Top Teacher competition of Page-One awards sponsored by the Ledger-Enquirer, Muscogee County School District, Outstanding Teacher. Mrs. Barrow also taught part time at Columbus College and taught workshops and writing courses for local businesses. She was a life member of the National Education Association and the Georgia Association of Educators. She was also a member of the Georgia Retired Educators Association and Muscogee Retired Education Association. Mrs. Barrow was a member and former president of Epsilon Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma International. She was a member of Striplin Terrace United Methodist Church; Fellowship Sunday School Class; STARS; and Wesleyan Group.

Mrs. Barrow is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bobby Brantley Barrow of Columbus; two sons, Marion Brantley Barrow and his wife Sharon Benson Barrow of Atlanta, GA and Richard Vernon Barrow and his wife Harriet Barron Barrow of Columbus; one sister, Dorothy Waters Wilson and her husband Dr. Robert Wilson of Shawnee, OK; one brother, James Vernon Waters and his wife Marjean Pope Waters of Columbus; grandchildren, Ric and Carter Barrow of Columbus and Brant and Rebecca Barrow of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Nancy Barrow Hill of IN; several nieces and nephews, Jamie Waters of Columbus, Jeffrey Waters of Columbus, Amy Kirchoff of Richmond, VA, Robert Woody Wilson of San Antonio, TX, Lucy Wilson of Boston, MA, Robert Wilson of OK, Mary Ann Hill of IN, and Robert Hill of IN; other relatives and friends.
