Betty Jane Byrum passed away in Kent, King Co,, Washington at 4:00 a.m. on January 4, 2012. She was born at home on June 25, 1923 in Bremerton, Kitsap Co., Washington to Milton Walter and Elizabeth Hulda (Lambert) Lund.
She was raised in Bremerton, Wash. After graduating in 1941 at Bremerton High School she became employed by the Bremerton Shipyard as a sheet metal mechanic.
There she met Lawrence LaVerne Byrum. They were married on October 23, 1945 in Seattle. After 10 years of marriage and having three children they divorced in 1956. She attended Seattle Pacific Lutheran College and graduated in 1960 with a teaching certificate. She taught school in the districts of Newport, Amboy, Battleground and Tacoma WA..
Betty taught herself to knit, crochet, sew, embroidery, trigonometry, to play the violin and the harmonica. In order to study the bible better she studied Hebrew and Greek languages. While in her twenties she played softball on the "Threaten Shipfitters" team for the Bremerton Shipyard.
Betty Byrum was a grandmother of 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and eight great - great grandchildren.
Survivors are: Three daughters Sharon and James Davis Jr., Yvette and Robert Aune, and Michele and Gary Ball. Seven grandchildren, Jennifer Benston and Jeramie Marrow, Michael and Bambi (Fuller) Benavidez, Rebecca (Byrum) and Michael Bonneville, Daniel and Roxanne (Barnett) Albro, Tonya (Ball) and Les Martin, Shawna (Ball) and James McDonald, and Kenneth Ball.
She had one brother Robert Milton Lund who died in 2001, one sister-in-law Peggy Joyce (Efnor) Lund who died in 2006 and one sister Lorna Gayle (Lund) Moikeha who died in 1993.
There will be a Burial Witness for family members at the Forest Lawn Cemetery 5409 Kitsap Way in Bremerton at 2:00 on Tuesday, January 10th and a Celebration of Life Service on Wednesday January 11th at 11:00 at Faith Church 25636 140th Ave SE Kent. All family members and friends are welcome to attend at the Faith Church.

Betty Jane Lund Byrum was born June 25, 1923, and raised in Bremerton, Washington. In her teens she lost her mother then her father a few years later. At the age of 16, a woman from the church she was attending asked Betty to a Bible Study where she learned about the love of Jesus and made a decision for Christ. A minister and his wife took her in as a foster teen and helped her with admission to Seattle Pacific College where she studied nursing for three years. She didn't finish college and left to work in the Bremerton Shipyard where she met her future husband. They married after the war and had three daughters. Their marriage later ended in divorce. Betty, knowing she had three children to raise, went back to collage and became a teacher in 1960, which was what she really desired to be. She taught in various schools in Washington.
Betty was faithful to her God and made sure her children learned about him by attending church and having devotions in the evenings. She also shared the gospel with her grandchildren and would take them to church with her. She studied her Bible, even learning Greek and Hebrew. She favorite subject was End Times and she loved talking to others about it.
She loved sports and enjoyed listening to her radio, especially to the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners broadcasts. She also had favorite Christian programs she enjoyed as well. Her hobbies were sewing, knitting, and working on calculus or trigonometry problems.
Betty often helped people to read. She was a strong proponent of education and was encouraging and helped her grandchildren to learn. She had 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
Betty was in very good health until 2008 when she had a heart attack. She was able to return to her assisted living facility for a couple of years but again had medical problems which she was unable to recover from when she moved in to an Adult Family Home in Kent where she spent the last several months of her life. Her Heavenly Father came to take her home on January 4, 2012. We will miss her but can rejoice knowing she is now with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
