James J. McCaul of 131 Ashburton Ave died of pneumonia at Camp Handcock, Augusta Ga. On October 21st, 1918. His remains were brought home to Yonkers, escorted by Private William Bill Meyer, of Saratoga Avenue, his brother Thomas McCaul of the Yonkers Police Force, and his fiancée. Miss Agnes Casey. Requiem high mass was celebrated 25 October 1918 in St. Joseph's 'Church, and the services were conducted in accordance with the military custom. At St. Joseph's Cemetery, where the body was interred in the family plot. Corporal McCaul's remains were blessed by Rev. Richard Hughes, of St. Denis's Church.

James was born in Yonkers on 27 January 1890, and he was educated in St. Joseph's School. He was a member of the motorcycle squad of the Scarsdale police and left Yonkers, July 18, 1918 with the second district draft quota for Camp Hancock, where he attended the machine gun training school. He was made Corporal and later acted as an instructor. At The Time of his death, Corporal McCaul was twenty-eight years old.
