He was born Jan 31, 1929 near Norwich, the son of James and Ruth Barlean Akes. He worked at Peerless laundry and Lisle Company before going into service, his time being spent in Korea. For the past several years Mr Akes has resided at Knoxville.
He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs Jim Akes of Clarinda, one brother and six sisters: Mrs Albert (Nettie) Bissell of St Louis, Mo, Mrs Paul (Daisy) Blair of Elsa, Texas, Mrs Ray (Ruby) Thompson of Grant, Mrs Wesley (Pauline) Scott of Albert City, Mrs James (Telma) Severns of Glenwood, Charles Akes of Council Bluffs, and Mrs Delbert (Shirley) White of Shenandoah and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at Walker Funeral Home with burial in the Clarinda Cemetery.
