George M. Fremont, Justice of the Peace of the Town of Saratoga for the last 16 years, died at 8:45 p.m. yesterday at his home, 154 Broad Street, Schuylerville. Although he had been in ill health for several years, Mr. Fremont’s death was unexpected. He was taken ill while in the Village of Schuylerville and taken to his home by two friends, Newell Wood and Anthony Corsetti.
The husband of the late Leona LeMieux, he was born in Cohoes, July 29, 1880 and had resided in Schuylerville where he was a communicant of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church. Agent for the Prudential Life Insurance Co, for 25 years, Mr. Fremont had retired from that position in 1939 because of failing health. He was a member of the Town Board of the Town of Saratoga; a past State Deputy Chief Ranger, Foresters of America, of Mechanicville; the Schuylerville Council, K.C., and the Old Saratoga Club of which he was a past president. He is survived by two sons, Rev. Gilbert C. Fremont of Bellefonte, Pa., and Robert L. Fremont of Schuylerville; ten daughters, Mrs. Joseph Ruff and Mrs. Lewis Boex, both of Schuylerville; Mrs. Robert Foster and Mrs. Anthony Ciotti, both of Greenwich; Mrs. Floyd Taylor of Hoosick Falls; Mrs. John Ryan of Ballston Spa; Mrs. Rolland Meloche of Amston, Conn., Mrs. George Mason of Corinth; Mrs. Gordon Wright of Schaghticoke and Mrs. Michael Simms of Mamaroneck; six brothers, Frank, Jeremiah, William and Raymond Fremont, all of Cohoes; John Fremont of North Carolina and Edward Fremont of Canada; one sister, Mrs. Nicholas Murray, Cohoes, as well as 24 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
