Robert J. Garvey, of Wethersfield, passed away Tuesday (August 14, 2007). He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Elizabeth (Foto) Garvey. He was born in Binghamton, NY, son of the late John J. and Mary Eileen (O'Gorman) Garvey. He was a high school teacher retiring in 1989 from North Haven High School. Prior to North Haven he had taught in Wethersfield and Wallingford. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Central Connecticut State University. He was an avid "ham" Radio operator for many years, his call sign NJIS. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. Besides his wife he leaves his sisters, Shirley O'Shea, Jacqueline Cahill and her husband Jack, and Sheila DeMarco and her husband Phil, all of New York; brothers, Brian Garvey of New York, and Kevin Garvey of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10 a.m. in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy., Wethersfield. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's name may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
