Catherine was the daughter of John Mackey and Ellen Ahern. She married Alexander Lilly on 7 NOV 1877 in Cedar Rapids, IA. They were the parents of Ellen (1878-1930), Joseph (1881-1972), Lawrence (1887-1951), Theresa (1891-1962, Thomas Kelly), and Martin (1895-1974).

Pocahontas Record Democrat - Thursday, March 30th, 1944 - Mrs. Catherine Lilly, pioneer
resident of Fonda, died Tuesday of last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T.D. Kelly. Mrs.
Lilly had been failing in health for several weeks.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning at 9:00 o'clock in Our Lady of Good Counsel church. The solemn requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. J.J. Howley, assisted by Rev. Farrelly of Laurens and Rev. G. Barry of Varina. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery. Pallbearers were her four grandsons and two great grandsons, Mark and Charles Kelly, Alex Lilly, Thomas Ashley, Eugene Hoye and Lt. Francis Hoye, who recently arrived home from the South Pacific.

Catherine Mackey was born November 26, 1866 near Boston, Mass. At an early age she came to Linn county near Cedar Rapids. She was united in marriage to Alexander Lilly of Cedar Rapids on Nov. 7, 1877. They lived on a farm near Cedar Rapids, later moving to a farm north of Newell. To this union five children were born: Ellen, who preceded her parents in death, Joseph of Laurens, Laurence (Ted) of Varina, Mrs. Teresa Kelly, and Martin of Fonda.

Mrs. Lilly moved to Fonda in the spring of 1911. She was a faithful member of the Catholic church throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughter and three sons: Mrs. T.D. (Teresa) Kelly and Martin Lilly of Fonda, Joseph Lilly of Laurens and Ted Lilly of Varina; one sister Mrs. Johanna McCafferty, 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Clouda of Ely, Misses Mary and Marie Mackey of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Mike Hoye and Joanne of

Joe Kelly and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Lilly and children of Varina, Mrs. Thomas Ashley and sons of Newell, Mr. and Mrs. James Connell of Albert City.
