Opal M. Matson was born May 9, 1932 in Evergreen, Alabama to Charlie and Rosia (Pope) Adams. She passed to life eternal on December 26, 2011 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. After high school graduation in 1950, Opal worked in Florida then moved to Austin, Texas in 1953. She was employed at Karotkin Furniture until 1966. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was a volunteer at Seton Hospital. In April 1966, she met her future husband, Air Force SSgt Warren Matson at church, and they married there on October 1, 1966. The next week they left for Mather Air Force Base, in California. Opal accepted a civil service secretary position there, followed moves to Hawaii, Virginia, California, Washington D.C., and Belgrade, Yugoslavia. During the three years in Belgrade she visited many West European countries, Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union. After her husband retired from the Air Force at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts, in 1979, they moved to Woburn, Massachusetts, until October 1998, when they moved to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas to retire. Opal was a loving wife and homemaker. Opal enjoyed working, floral arranging, gardening and landscaping. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband Warren Matson of 45 years; her sister, Ellen Stevenson; and nieces, Cheryl Carpenter, Donna Aleman and Stephanie Block.

Special thanks are given to Scott & White Hospice and Clinic.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church. A reception will follow the service. A private Inurnment service will take place at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 4010 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628, or the Alzheimer's Association, 3429 Executive Center Dr # 100 Austin, TX 78731.
