Lucia L. Acevedo (Lucy) 89, passed away into the arms of the Lord on December 6, 2011. Born in Harshaw, Arizona on August 30, 1922 to Luciano and Josefa Lopez. Mom was one of nine children and was raised in a remote part of the state near Patagonia.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Acevedo; son, Hector Acevedo and grandson, Tommy Olivas Jr.

Mom died of a broken heart… after being together nearly 70 years with Dad, she just wasn't the same after he passed away earlier this year.

Mom was a homemaker and dedicated her life to her family. She made sure we had homemade bread, tortillas, chicken soup, tamales, chocolate cake and pecan pie… all from scratch! Mom enjoyed playing cards (malia) and loved to dance. Even though mom was quiet, she was strong and feisty and that spirit resides in all of us.

Mom leaves behind her four remaining children, Ernie (Linda), Norma, Barb and Dave (Trinket); daughter-in-law, Margo; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also, siblings, Jesus Lopez, Ester Gomez, Sister Maria Lucinda and Vicente Lopez.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 From 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at DESERT SUNSET FUNERAL HOME, 3081 N. Orange Grove. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2011 10:00 a.m. at Saints Peter & Paul, 1946 E. Lee St. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.
