Mary, known to her own family by her middle name of Alta, was born to the late Henry and Esther Cunningham on August 11, 1912 in Moline, Kansas. At the age of 5 she moved with her family to Canon City, Colorado where she attended St. Michael's Grade Scool and then St. Scholastica Catholic High School, where she graduated in 1930, after which she began a nursing career at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. On June 8, 1946 she married her husband of 42 years, Paul Loren Rogers, and began a family with the births of three children. In 1958 they moved their young family to Denver, and ultimately to the house on Clayton Street that would become her home for nearly 50 years.
