Grace Parker, 81, Succumbs
Mrs. Grace Craig Parker, 81, resident of 402 E. Bank Street, Centerville,
passed away very suddenly Monday, Nov. 25, while in Younkers Store in Des
Moines. She had suffered a heart ailment for the past, two years and her death
at 3 p.m. was attributed to a heart attack.
Mrs. Parker was a lifelong resident of Appanoose County, having been born here
Feb. 25, 1887, the daughter of John S. and Emma McDonald Long.
In October of 1911 she married Noke V. Craig, in Centerville and he preceded
her in death Dec. 8, 1957.
She was united in marriage to Earl A. Parker of Centerville in February, 1960,
and he survives her passing.
Mrs. Parker was a member of the Drake Avenue Christian Church and Order of
Eastern Star. She was a kindly person of high caliber and her friends numbered
among the hundreds. She will be especially missed by a particular group of
close friends with whom she had enjoyed monthly social times for more than 50
years.
Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Dewey.
Survivors besides her husband include a daughter, Mrs. Kaye Washburn, 304 E.
Washington Street; three granddaughters, Mrs. Dennis Cronk of Des Moines, Mrs.
William Helleur Ill, and Miss Lorie Washburn, both of Centerville; four
great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mumford Smith of Nashville, Tenn.; two
brothers, Ray Long of Centerville and Guy Long of Fairsteel, S.D.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. from the Miller-Wehrle
Funeral Home, with burial in Dale Cemetery north of Centerville.
