Charles H. Blosser, Jr., 74, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at his residence. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 30, 2011, at Council Grove United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 at the church on Thursday, December 29th.Memorial contributions may be made to Charley Blosser Memorial Fund, which will be designated later. They may be sent in care of Penwell-Gabel, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brother Allen Dale "Bake" Blosser, sister Imarie Bowlan, sisters-in-law Dee Blosser and Bette Blosser, brother-in-law Chuck Bowlan, son-in-law Jason Kormanik, niece Serina Patton and nephew Jeremy Hopper.He is survived by his wife Shirley, of the home; son Jeff J. Blosser & wife Angela; daughter Mary K. Myers & husband Chris, all of Council Grove; brother Bill Blosser, of Wilsey; sister Stella Roediger & husband Ralph, of White City; and 6 grandchildren.Charles, or Chas as he was known to his friends, was born December 17, 1937; the son of Charles H. and Nelly Blosser.Charley spent his days as a youth with Brothers "Bake" and Bill and sisters Imarie and Stella. Charles was a very fast runner, even though he was short in statcher. He held the Council Grove Grade School track record in the 100 Yard dash for many years. He spent lots of time at Bobby & Georgie Alexander's ranch, where he learned to ride horses, rope cattle, ride bulls and a few other "bad" habits. Chas began competing in local high school rodeos and won the National High School Bull Riding Championship his senior year. In 1955 Charley enlisted in the US Air Force and was sent to Korea as a heavy equipment operator to perform post-war cleanup operations. He was honorably discharged in 1959; while being stationed in Montana. He returned to the Council Grove area and resumed bull riding, team roping, and wild cow milking on the PRC and local circuits and began a career of truck driving and heavy equipment operating. In 1967 Charles married Shirley M. Hesser and had a son Jeff in February of 1969 and daughter Mary Kay on his birthday in 1973. Charley met Shirley because he went to school with Shirley's sister and always said: "He had to settle for second best"; but we all knew that wasn't the case. Shirley became his nurse on several occasions, because Chas was known in his younger days as a "Scrappy" little fighter. Charley began working for Neosho Construction Co. in 1972 and worked for the Hutchinson Family many times until his retirement in 2007.Charley enjoyed watching sports on television and betting on them with his good buddy "Spank" Ratliff. Charley was no stranger to the cards and dice either. Charley enjoyed team roping and wild cow milking with close friend; such as: Darrel Litke, Rick Williams, and many others. Charley loved attending rodeos and bull ridings. He and Shirley went to 22 straight years of the National Finals Rodeo and PBR in Oklahoma City and Las Vegas. He took up golf for several years in his later life and was known throughout the country club as the highest "handi-capper" in the club; but I think he enjoyed the friendships and adult beverages more than the golf.Chas was a tremendous story teller and was the main character in many of the stories. Some he told several hundred times. He loved spending time at the "Bull" table in the Saddle Rock Café. He enjoyed bird watching, puzzles, and playing cards; especially "Ten Point" pitch.Charley enjoyed spending time with friends; whether at Ross's for "Just One" or visiting over the hood of his old green truck. He loved his wife, was proud of his kids, and absolutely adored the grandkids. They brought out a smile from him on even the worst of days.
