The couple had known each other from his touring, and after two dates, she agreed to marry him six weeks later, on October 5, 1952. Daughter Becky was born on September 11 of the following year (she was named after the wife of Sam Phillips of Sun Records and Elvis Presley fame, who had encouraged the 14-year-old Jake at one of his first radio jobs when he sang with the Rhythm Rascals). Son Chris was born on December 17, 1955, and was named after one of Jake's brothers. Jake Jr. was born on June 25, 1960.
