Born in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany and came to America in 1852. He married Caroline Lang and together they had six children.
He was a minister affiliated with the First German Evangelical Church

Evangelical Church of South Attica.
Evangelical work was started in the late 1860's by Rev. C.A. Adams. Services were held in homes, schoolhouses, in the open-air and even in barns.

The family lived in New York until 1893 when they moved to Southern California. He died in 1907 at age 67.
