Mr. King first joined the United States Marine Corps in March of 1914. He served during the Mexican War and World War I. He saw sea duty on the USS New Jersey and the USS Prairie. He saw shore duty at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, CA; Marine Barracks Navy Yard, Boston, MA; and Headquarters, Eastern Recruiting Division, Philadelphia, PA. He was awarded the Marine Corps. Good Conduct medal with one reenlistment bar, the Marine Corps. Mexican Service medal, the World War I Victory medal, the Sharpshooter badge for 1914 and 1920, and the Marksman badge for 1919. He was honorably discharged in May of 1922.
