C. Douglas "Doug" Bryant, Galesburg Chapel 68, of Galesburg, died at 9:16 a.m. Saturday, December 24, 2011 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born November 10, 1943 in Grand Junction, Colo., the son of Charles and Rosemary Douglas Bryant. He married Donna Reese on June 17, 1966. He later married Deanna Arnold on June 7, 1996 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Deanna; his father, Charles Bryant of Millersburg, Mo.; his mother, Rosemary Bryant of Knoxville, Ill.; a son, Kyle (and Wendy) Bryant of Cameron, Ill. a daughter, Keri (and Corey) Jamison of Cameron; two step daughters in Ariz.; three grandchildren, Lauren Jamison and Levi and Chase Bryant; three step grandchildren; a brother, Steve (and Jeanine) Bryant of Galesburg; and nieces and nephews.
Doug was a math teacher at Knoxville High School for 31 years and during the summers he painted houses with Brian Crawford, retiring in 2004. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1961 and St. Ambrose University in 1973. Doug was a member of First Christian Church in Galesburg.
Doug volunteered his time at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and was a reading buddy at Silas Willard School. He was a U.S. Soccer Federation referee and instructor. After retirement, he spent time hauling grain and working in his yard. Doug loved playing with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed cars and NASCAR and Illinois basketball.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Greg Fitch will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
