The officers who attended Governor Stone's annual reception at Jefferson City Thursday evening returned this morning on the Missouri Pacific. There were about seventy-five officers from various parts of the state present and the Carthage delegation report a most enjoyable visit. The officers had a meeting while in Jefferson City with the object of organizing for pushing a bill through the state legislature for the more favorable recognition of the state militia, but no definite action was taken. The Carthage officers who attended were:
Col. W. K. Caffee, Captains A. B. Deutsch, Joe McMillian, John McMillan, and J. W. Halliburton.

END COMES AT DAUGHTER'S HOME IN TOPEKA TODAY
Funeral of Pioneer Carthage Merchant and Financier to Be Held There Friday
Captain A. B. Deutsch, pioneer merchant and financier of Carthage, died this morning at the home of his son-in-law H. A. Auerbach at Topeka, KS., where he had returned Sunday morning from San Antonio, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Deutsch, following their custom of visiting the south in the winter, had spent the latter portion of the last few months at San Antonio. There Mr. Deutsch suffered an attack of pneumonia, which was followed by a complication of diseases. He was sick for many weeks at his hotel in San Antonio, and recovered sufficiently to undertake his trip home.
The deceased would have been 66 years old May 1. He is survived by his wife and only child, Mrs. H. A. [Rosine] Auerbach. The funeral will be held at Topeka Friday afternoon and interment will be at Topeka. Lee Halliburton and Robert Grissom, of the Deutsch Clothing company, and J. E. Lang, cashier of the Central National Bank, will leave here Thursday evening for Topeka to attend the funeral.

His first employment was at Jacksonville, Illinois where he worked in a clothing store, rapidly rising in the esteem of the firm for whom he worked. Forty years ago he came from there to Carthage and opened a clothing store of his own. His first location was in a wooden building on the east side of the square, next north of where C. A. Galloway's drug store now stands.
From that place he moved into a brick building next door, where the Galloway drug store is, and from there moved to the north side of the square to the room now occupied by the Deutsch Clothing Company. Several years after moving to the present location he organized the A. B. Deutsch Clothing Company, with Henry Bate Smith and R. E. L. Halliburton as his associates in the company. The company is at present the same, except that Robert Grissom holds the interest at first held by H. B. Smith, who is now dead.
Some years after coming to Carthage Mr. Deutsch was married to Miss Rachael Morris, the adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Morris of Chicago and a niece of Mrs. Morris.
Was President of Central National
Mr. Deutsch has always been president of the Deutsch Clothing Company since its formation, although some four or five years ago he retired from active business. He was for many years president of the Central National Bank resigning that position about the time he retired from active participation in business.
He was long identified with the national guard of this state. He was for a time quartermaster of the Light Guard militia company of this city and from that position stepped into the important position of quartermaster of the second regiment N. G. M. as office which he long held, including the period of the Spanish-American war. It was in connection with this position that he received his title of captain.
Since retiring from business, Mr. Deutsch has spent much of his time here, and has always been considered a Carthage citizen and an enterprising member of the community.

Rabbi Speaks Highly of Former Carthage Merchant
J. E. Lang and R. E. L. Halliburton and R. C. Grissom returned this morning from Topeka, Kansas where yesterday afternoon they attended the funeral of A. B. Deutsch. Dr. Meyer of Kansas City, conducted the funeral rites. The burial was conducted with Masonic ceremonies.
Many beautiful flowers from Carthage were among those grouped around the casket. The rabbi in his address alluded to the high respect in which the deceased was held at his former home in Carthage, where he had lived for 40 years, and mentioned that at that hour the business houses of Carthage were closed in respect to his memory. The funeral was a very impressive one.

A. B. DEUTSCH--Aged 66, died yesterday morning at his home, 310 West Tenth Street. The funeral will be held Friday at 3 o'clock from the home of his daughter Mrs. H. A. [Rosine] Auerbach, 829 Buchanan street. Interment in Topeka cemetery.

CAPTAIN DEUTSCH IS DEAD
END COMES AT DAUGHTER'S HOME IN TOPEKA TODAY
Funeral of Pioneer Carthage Merchant and Financier to Be Held There Friday
Captain A. B. Deutsch, pioneer merchant and financier of Carthage, died this morning at the home of his son-in-law H. A. Auerbach at Topeka, KS., where he had returned Sunday morning from San Antonio, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Deutsch, following their custom of visiting the south in the winter, had spent the latter portion of the last few months at San Antonio. There Mr. Deutsch suffered an attack of pneumonia, which was followed by a complication of diseases. He was sick for many weeks at his hotel in San Antonio, and recovered sufficiently to undertake his trip home.
The deceased would have been 66 years old May 1. He is survived by his wife and only child, Mrs. H. A. [Rosine] Auerbach. The funeral will be held at Topeka Friday afternoon and interment will be at Topeka. Lee Halliburton and Robert Grissom, of the Deutsch Clothing company, and J. E. Lang, cashier of the Central National Bank, will leave here Thursday evening for Topeka to attend the funeral.
Was Born in Bohemia
Captain A. B. Deutsch was born in Bohemia, Austria-Hungary on May 1, 1850, and came to America when 16 years old. His first employment was at Jacksonville, Illinois where he worked in a clothing store, rapidly rising in the esteem of the firm for whom he worked. Forty years ago he came from there to Carthage and opened a clothing store of his own. His first location was in a wooden building on the east side of the square, next north of where C. A. Galloway's drug store now stands.
From that place he moved into a brick building next door, where the Galloway drug store is, and from there moved to the north side of the square to the room now occupied by the Deutsch Clothing Company. Several years after moving to the present location he organized the A. B. Deutsch Clothing Company, with Henry Bate Smith and R. E. L. Halliburton as his associates in the company. The company is at present the same, except that Robert Grissom holds the interest at first held by H. B. Smith, who is now dead.
Some years after coming to Carthage Mr. Deutsch was married to Miss Rachael Morris, the adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Morris of Chicago and a niece of Mrs. Morris.
Was President of Central National
Mr. Deutsch has always been president of the Deutsch Clothing Company since its formation, although some four or five years ago he retired from active business. He was for many years president of the Central National Bank resigning that position about the time he retired from active participation in business.
He was long identified with the national guard of this state. He was for a time quartermaster of the Light Guard militia company of this city and from that position stepped into the important position of quartermaster of the second regiment N. G. M. as office which he long held, including the period of the Spanish-American war. It was in connection with this position that he received his title of captain.
Since retiring from business, Mr. Deutsch has spent much of his time here, and has always been considered a Carthage citizen and an enterprising member of the community.

BACK FROM DEUTSCH FUNERAL
Rabbi Speaks Highly of Former Carthage Merchant
J. E. Lang and R. E. L. Halliburton and R. C. Grissom returned this morning from Topeka, Kansas where yesterday afternoon they attended the funeral of A. B. Deutsch. Dr. Meyer of Kansas City, conducted the funeral rites. The burial was conducted with Masonic ceremonies.
Many beautiful flowers from Carthage were among those grouped around the casket. The rabbi in his address alluded to the high respect in which the deceased was held at his former home in Carthage, where he had lived for 40 years, and mentioned that at that hour the business houses of Carthage were closed in respect to his memory. The funeral was a very impressive one.
