Everett R. Smith, Galesburg Chapel 68, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, December 24, 2011 in Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Ill.
Everett was born February 8, 1943 in Galesburg, Ill., the son of Louie Smith and Iva Baker Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Candi Muray of Salado, Texas and Cookie Palmer of Biloxi, Miss.; two brothers, J.B. Smith of Galesburg and Thomas Smith of Wash.; a sister, Jane Morgan of Moline, Ill.; and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister and three brothers.
Everett was raised in Abingdon. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963. He then worked as a welder for the Litton Ship Building Company on the gulf coast for 25 years.
Everett was a member of the Alpha Masonic Lodge AM & AF #155, a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285, VFW Post 2257 and of the Scottish Right and Shriners. He was of the Methodist faith.
Masonic services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday December 29, 2011 by Alpha Masonic Lodge #155 AF & AM at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral services will immediately follow Masonic services at the chapel. Rev. M.J. Fitch will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 at the funeral home. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Nursing Home.
