Son of Earl O. Nichols and Letha (Phillips) Nichols of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He attended Broken Arrow schools twelve years and graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 1959. He was President of his senior class. He was in Scouts, in DeMolay, Band and played on the football team. He attended Northeastern State University and was an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. He married Judy Haywood and was the father of Brad and Melanie Nichols. Gary died February 10, 2004 and a memorial service was held at the First United Methodist Church in Broken Arrow.
