Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company E, 72d New York Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on July 2, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. His citation reads "In a charge of his regiment this soldier captured the regimental flag of the 8th Florida Infantry (C.S.A.)."
