MOS 0302 Infantry Officer
Tom graduated from the Servite High School in Anaheim.
He graduated with The Basic School Class of April 1969, Quantico, Virginia. Thomas was serving in the Marine Reserves, before going into active duty.
Tom arrived in Vietnam 12 May 1969 and was assigned to 1st Platoon, India Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.
At 0830H, outside Fire Support Base Russell and 9 kilometers south of Lang Cam Village, while on a patrol Lt Caruso stepped on a half-buried booby-trap grenade. The grenade went off behind him and he died as a result of fragmentation wounds. Other Marines were wounded. His cause of death was determined an accident.
Lt Caruso was single and served his country for 2 years.
Survived by his parents, Carl and Geraldine Caruso, two sisters, Catherine and Charlene, and five brothers, Jack, Gerald, Richard Heida and Tom Caruso.
