Sylvia Hautala died Sunday, May 30, 1999, at University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing. She was born Nov. 16, 1912, in Sturgeon Township to Andrew M. and Anna (Viinamaki) Hautala. She was a member of a Sturgeon Township pioneer family and attended country schools. She worked in manufacturing plants in various industries, was a cook at Pyrinto Boarding House in Chisholm and worked on the family farm in Sturgeon Township.
Survivors include a son, LeRoy (Carol) Hautala; three sisters, Elma Salmi, Martha (John) Santanello, and Helen Colby; two grandchildren, Dale (Stephanie) Hautala and Gina (Todd) Zenk; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and four sisters.
Burial will be at Morcom Cemetery in Bear River.
