He immigrated with his parents and two sisters to New York on June 8, 1852 on the S. S. Rastede. The family traveled to Kankakee Co. IL where Henry, Sr. purchased a farm and died within two months in the cholera epidemic. Helped by his famiy, Henry, Jr eventually took over the farm.
He married Rosina Mary Walker in Bonfield on Mar. 3, 1868. They had 10 children, 9 of whom grew to adulthood.
Henry and Rosina eventually retired to Oak Park where both died.
