Our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ called his servant, Sarah Shumpert Kinard, to her eternal home of rest, peace and joy April 4, 2006.

Christian services to celebrate her peaceful release from this life and welcome into the arms of Jesus, will be held at Congaree Baptist Church 2 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2006, officiated by Rev. Tommy McGill, Rev. Ron Pelfrey and Rev. Charles Young. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of her Sunday school class and choir members of Congaree Baptist Church. A private burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Pelion, SC. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2006, at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.

Mrs. Kinard was born December 15, 1920, in Pelion and was a daughter of the late Percy Legare and Hattie Mae Reeder Shumpert.

Mrs. Kinard retired from Seibels Bruce & Co. where she was an administrative assistant and commissioned notary public with over 34 years of service. After retirement she tutored children in the Lexington County School System.

She was a member of Congaree Baptist Church where she was a former pianist, Sunday school teacher and choir member.

Survivors include son, Douglas H. Kinard and wife, Donna, of W. Columbia; daughter, Sarah K. Black and husband, Terry, of W. Columbia; 10 grandchildren, Beth C. Bertwell and husband, Denny, of W. Columbia, Hamilton Kinard of W. Columbia, Chris Clampitt of Irmo, Charles E. Clampitt of Littleton, CO, Becky K. Brown and husband, Tracy, of Lugoff, Charlene Kinard of Lexington, Angela K. Webber and husband, Scott, of Lexington, Kimberly Kinard of Lexington, Kathy K. Desdin and husband, Miquel, of Carmel, IN, Melanie A. Marcum and husband, Christiaan, of Charleston; 15 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Jean Kramer of Connecticut.

Mrs. Kinard was predeceased by her husband, Charles Tillman Kinard, Sr; son, Charles Tillman Kinard, Jr. and a sister, Addie Agnes Shumpert Sirmons.

A special thanks to the dedicated caregivers at Oakleaf Village of Lexington and the nursing staff of the 5th floor of the Lexington Medical Center.
